Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and MassHealth Patient Safety Reporting Policies

Many health care facilities in Massachusetts participate in quality initiatives of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and most receive payments from Medicare and/or MassHealth. As a result, your facility may have reporting obligations related to health care quality and safety imposed by CMS or MassHealth.

However, because of the variation in health care organizations’ participation in CMS and MassHealth programs, this site is not able to help providers navigate the reporting requirements associated with any individual facility’s conditions of participation or quality initiatives.

In particular, if your facility is part of a CMS quality reporting program and has experienced an adverse event, the Navigator is not equipped to help you determine whether or not that particular event is reportable under the initiative.
