Because of the variability in reporting requirements imposed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) based on participation in select quality programs, the Navigator does not include in-depth information on patient safety reporting obligations stemming from this federal agency.

Nevertheless, be aware that outpatient dialysis facilities that participate in the CMS End-Stage Renal Disease Quality Incentive Program should report “dialysis events” in accordance with CMS’s Dialysis Event Protocol, in order to receive full payment.
